Plaid

Well, we're in a cold snap here in Colorado, so it only seemed appropriate to show this plaid button-up.  Something about it just seems warm & cozy to me.  Its not quite cotton, yet not full-blown flannel either, which makes it easy to wear to work or wear to dinner with friends.  Plus I really love the color combination...navy, green & pink!

For work, I wore it layered underneath a pink 3/4 length sleeve sweater & added a cream bubble necklace. I then kept is simple with navy slacks & nude platform heels.

The next time I wore it was over the weekend & really wanted to keep a casual look.  This time I layered a pink tank underneath the plaid & simply wore skinny jeans & tall brown riding boots.  Because I wanted to be more simple, I added a chunky gold chain necklace & gold detail leather cuff rather than a statement necklace.  Not pictured here (sorry), was I added a soft pink scarf for extra warmth.  And I don't own one (sad face here), but if I did, I would definitely be adding a vest over the top of this.  That could be a puffer vest or fur vest.  Both the scarf option & the vest option also have the added bonus of not only extra warmth, but also extra detail in the outfit as well.

I hope this doesn't seem too "boring" compared to some of my typical posts.  I really wanted to share it with you though to demonstrate how you can still dress casually (like the second example), but still put forward a cohesive style.  You will ooze more confidence simply because you feel good in what you're wearing, whether your dressed casual, professional, or anywhere in between.

Plaid has been all over the place this fall & winter...do you have a favorite piece?  Try mixing it up with a sweater of a complimenting color (doesn't necessarily have to be a matching color), or layer it up with a vest!
Let me know how it turns out!

Stay warm!

  4. I like how you showed the two different layering options- with the pink under AND over the plaid. I ordered a similar gold chain necklace and now after seeing yours I want it NOW. :) -Gina

  5. Love that you showed this over and under! It's the perfect plaid!
I agree, simple doesn't necessarily mean boring! A couple of accessories and nail color, and you look completely polished and put together!

  6. I love both of these looks and love the plaid with the pink. I just pinned it. :) I also love wearing items for work and for casual - I'm always trying to make a point to make the most of everything I own and that's such an awesome way to do it. If you're interested, I host a weekly Fashionably Employed Link Up to share workwear looks to inspire us all, and I think your work look above would be a great addition. I'd love for you to join if you'd like. Thanks for sharing!
