The Maxi Skirt

Over the past week I've had a few friends & family purchase new Maxi Skirts.  The common question has been "now what do I wear with this?".  It seemed to be a good question, so I though I'd toss out a few ideas here.

You're going to be seeing a ton of Maxi Skirts around this Spring & Summer.  They are incredibly comfortable to wear & can give you great style without much effort.

What you'll be seeing Maxi Skirts paired with is fitted tee's & tanks, chambray shirts, denim jackets, cropped tops, & even a belt or two.

And I couldn't resist showing you all how my two daughters styled their Maxi Skirts (all on their own, I might add).  Yep, you'll see this trend all the way down to the young ones!

Now, I already know some of you are thinking that Maxi Skirts aren't for you, but do me a favor & just try one on!  There's no harm in just trying one on, right?  You may just find that you love them!

I hope these example help inspire you on ways you can wear your Maxi Skirt from what you already have in your closet.  Don't forget to have fun with patterns & colors too!  I should also mention that you can knot your chambray & tee shirts to create more of a defined waist.

High Five for Friday

It's Friday yet again!  The girls have been on Spring Break this week & have one more week to go. That's right, they get a two week Spring Break which I love because, quite frankly, one week just goes by way too fast. This week we've just kind of reveled in not having to do anything in a timely fashion & have been enjoying the slower pace of life. We'll have a few activities planned for next week, but still nothing major.

Anyway, lets talk about High Five for Friday this week. Um, in case you didn't know already, I have a love for shoes (don't all girls love shoes?). It dawned on me yesterday that I've acquired quite a few new pairs in the last two weeks, so why not share them for this Friday's post. I've noticed that I get on these kicks where I'll buy multiple pairs within a very short time frame & I think that's triggered by the changing of the seasons. I will say that I've been really good about donating some older/worn-out shoes lately to make room for the new ones, so I can't feel that bad, right?

Nothing too earth shattering here - just some good deals & styles I couldn't pass up...

New Shoes

1). Mint Flats: I've mentioned this pair on this post before & have been patiently waiting for them to go on sale ever since. Well I finally broke down & purchased them during Target's Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale this week. Yay!!!

2). Patent Grey Kitten Heel Slingbacks:  Well, in order to get said shoes above at 50% off, I had to get another pair at the same time.  I've been searching for grey shoes that would be work appropriate for a while now & for various reasons haven't found anything. Honestly, I didn't like the look of these shoes on the rack & only even tried them on because of the color. However, once I put them on I really liked them!  Goes to show you that you have to try things on!  They look fab with boyfriend jeans too!

3). Strappy Sandals: Nope, you're not having troubles with your vision...I actually bought this pair in both Navy & Brown (insert smiley face here)!  These were on sale at Target last week for $12 a pair & I was having a tough time deciding on which color I "needed" the most...so I got both!  Great for casual wear for Spring, Summer, & early Fall.

4). Ankle Strap Heel:  This is probably my favorite shoe style right now. I love how they are so minimal, yet edgy. I blame this purchase on Kohls Cash that was going to expire so I had to buy something!  However, between a sale, a coupon, my Kohls Cash, & the remainder of a gift card from Christmas, these beauties didn't cost me really anything. I love them!

5). Natural Wedges:  I picked these pretty little things up on a lunch hour when I was "killing time" at TJ Maxx.  At first I really struggled with the price, but later saw them at the Guess Factory store for $20 more than I paid. I still feel bad at the price, but sometimes you just have to buy the shoe! I struggled at the end of last Summer finding a new pair of brown wedges, so that's my justification for this pair.  (Currently on sale at Guess Factory for $44.99, I paid $39.99 at TJ Maxx)

Well that wraps up my five "pretties" this week. How about you, what's worthy of your High Fives this week?

The Blue of Cobalt

I sure hope I'm not boring you all with so many color posts lately, but I honestly just want to shout it out when I love something!  So, today I wanted to talk about Cobalt Blue for Spring & Summer.

Cobalt (or royal) blue is such a vibrant, beautiful color that will look  gorgeous with other Spring trends for this year.  It will actually be a nice mix to the pastel colors that are so on-trend right now & even be a way to shake things up a bit.

I personally am on the hunt for the perfect pair of Cobalt blue pumps.  I'll be sure to shout it out when I do find them.

Here are a few ways you can use Cobalt Blue mixing it with other bright colors...

Cobalt Blue with Bright Colors

Maxi dress / Topshop top / Shirts top / Gap boyfriend jeans / American Eagle Outfitters short shorts / GUESS mid heel wedge sandals / Charles by Charles David pumps / Miss Selfridge miniature purse / Big buddha tote bag / Gold jewelry / Vince Camuto gemstone earrings / Charlotte Russe rhinestone stud earrings / Forever 21 chain necklace / Dorus Mhor cobalt blue jewelry / Accessorize stone pendant / Dorothy Perkins belt

...& here's a few ways to wear this beautiful blue with pastels.  Well actually the middle example is the way I recently wore Cobalt with my Mega Dot blouse & ankle pants.  Although, I am missing the Cobalt shoes so had to settle for black pumps when I wore it (sorry, I didn't take any pictures of that outfit).  Also worth mentioning is the Cobalt Blue Ankle Pants on the left are on clearance online at Target right now.

...More Cobalt Blue

Do you love Cobalt as much as I do?  I hope I've inspired you to wear it with some new colors!

Wardrobe Essentials: The Graphic Tee

I wanted to talk just a bit about Graphic Tee's really quickly today, as they seem to be everywhere in fashion lately.  If you don't already have one (or two or three) let me try to convince you that you need to have them in your wardrobe.  If you already have a Graphic Tee, look below for ideas on ways to wear them.

A Graphic Tee can be worn in so many ways & with so many different pieces, you'd be silly not to have one. You can wear them to "dress down" a dressier skirt or pant, you can wear them with a multitude of fabrics, prints, & patterns, or you can keep it casual & simply wear them with a statement necklace & jean (or fun shoe).

I was lucky enough to be featured on The Life of the Party's Style File Link-up: How We Wore It feature this past Saturday.  Be sure to check out that post for all the ways the hosts & contributors wore Graphic Tee's.  You'll find a little bit of everything shown on that post, so it's a great reference.

Additionally, you can see these pasts posts where I've featured/used Graphic Tee's before:

1) Blazer Find
2) Pink Tweed
3) Camo Love?
4) Spirit of Green
5) Converse

If you happen to be in the market for a new Graphic Tee to add to your closet, here are some possibilities to check out...

High Five for Friday

I have a confession to make - I just discovered a store that I'm in love with!  The slightly embarrassing part is that it's not even a "new" store - it's been around for plenty of time...J. Crew Factory Stores!  Hello, I'll take one of everything please!  Why haven't I shopped there before?  Well I've done plenty of window shopping at regular J. Crew store, but I rarely go inside because why tempt myself with things that I, quite frankly, can't afford.  Since I've been hitting our local outlet mall more frequently lately (they've been adding more retailers recently), I finally went inside their outlet store last weekend with my sister.

Of course we tried on a slew of things, fell in love with a few things, but eventually talked ourselves out of everything for one reason or another.  The one thing we were mesmerized by was the jewelry!! It. Was. Gorgeous.  So, in honor of High Five for Friday I thought I'd share with you just a sampling of the pieces I drooled over...of course in the number of 5.

Jewelry @ J. Crew

I have to say that these pictures don't do any of these pieces justice.  You'll have to go by your nearest J. Crew Factory store to check them out in person to see the beautiful colors & shine they radiate!  The beauty of each of these pieces is they would look great with just a simple tee shirt!

When we were there last weekend, nearly the entire store was an additional 50% off (including already marked down items) making most pieces (clothing & accessories) reasonably priced.  I don't know if that in-store sale is still going, but if not, they'll surely do it again so keep an eye out.  I'll also inform you on Facebook if I get wind of great sales.

What new, or not-so-new, stores have you discovered lately?  I'd love to hear!

Have a happy weekend!

Pretty in Pink

Back with the mini-color series, today I wanted to talk about Pink (see the Mint post here).  Not just any pink though, specifically Soft Pink.  I find my heart skipping a beat when I think of adding this color to my wardrobe.  Soft pastels are definitely "in" this Spring, & with the first day of Spring officially tomorrow, I thought it high time we talk a little more about this color! :-)

I would gladly welcome any of the following to my closet...

Options for Soft Pink
Old Navy clothing / Forever 21 eyelet skirt / Forever 21 toe thong sandals / Clutch / Miss Selfridge mini handbag / Floral earrings / Forever 21 chain jewelry / Button jewelry / Forever 21 scarve / Dorothy Perkins pink belt / Pink nail polish / Mossimo Supply Co. Junior's Crochet Chiffon Top - Assorted Colors

I'm typically one to go for more bright or vibrant colors, but I do find myself liking the pale version of Pink right now.  The color is sweet, fairly versatile, & goes great with most skin tones.  I think some people try to avoid this color, but I would urge you to at least see how some of these pieces look next to your skin.

Not sure how to wear this Soft Pink color?  Try mixing it with any of the following color or pattern suggestions.

Color/Pattern mixing options for Soft Pink
Of course, don't forget all your neutral colors too - Navy Blue, Browns, Black, Grey, White & Cream.

So, what do you think....are you going to give Soft Pink a chance?

Spirit of Green

First & foremost I want to wish my Husband (my rock) a very Happy Birthday today!!  We love you - you're the best - xoxo!

Well it seemed only appropriate that I share something green with y'all today in honor of St. Patrick's Day!

I purchased this skirt from Banana Republic Factory store a few weeks ago.  I'd love to link you to it but I can't locate it online...sorry!  I find myself attracted to this emerald green or kelly green color.  Here's a glance at how I recently wore it with a black boyfriend cardigan layered over a cream sequined tank top & black ankle booties.

I also plan to pair it with this cranberry colored tank top in the near future...

...and I can also wear it more casually when the warmer temperatures arrive for good!

Other colors that would look great with this green are Navy blue, light mint, corals & pinks.  If you're in the market for something green along these lines check out these options here & here.  Or, your local Banana Republic Factory store may have this exact one in stock.

Also, be sure to follow me on Instagram @ie4style if you'd like to see more daily outfits where I re-use a lot of pieces I've featured here on the blog!

Happy St. Patty's Day to you!  Any big plans to celebrate?

High Five for Friday

It's Friday again & the sun is shinning!!  I'm going for another twist on High Five for Friday today.  Inspired by this post on Maskcara, I thought I'd share 5 things that make me happy for $5 or less. Sounds easy, right? Well not as easy as I thought it was going to be...things cost a lot these days, haha! However, I persevered - so without further ado, here are my 5 bits of happiness:

1) Starbucks Coffee:  My order - Venti Iced Coffee with White Mocha & room. Then I top it off with Half-and-Half....yum!  The cost is around $3.80 depending on tax rate. If you follow the blog on Facebook, you'll already know that I have been known to strap my coffee in for safety too ;-)

2) Clearance Jewelry at Target:  I can typically find something fabulous for under $5...these were all under $3!!

3) Baby Lips by Maybelline:  These satisfy me when I feel the need to try something new for lip color. At just under $4 I don't have to worry about a big investment to make me second guess the purchase. The colors look strong in the tube, but all the colors I have tried go on very sheer, & in a way are "buildable" if you want a stronger color.

4) Foaming Hand Wash from Bath and Body Works:  I like to keep a few varying bottles of these in the cabinet. That way I can switch out the scent depending on the season or bring out a fresh new bottle when company is over. Currently they have a Hawaiian line out that just screams summer!  I like the foam too because it feels light & doesn't take forever to rinse off. I even like to give these as a part of a gift sometimes...how fun for a housewarming gift?! This one may be considered cheating though, because you typically have to buy 4-6 bottles at once in order to get the price per bottle under $5.  But, I suppose this is my blog so I can break the rules, right?!
Caribbean Escape Gentle Foaming Hand Soap - Anti-Bacterial - Bath & Body WorksMango Hibiscus Gentle Foaming Hand Soap - Anti-Bacterial - Bath & Body Works

5) Music:  While I don't do it often, it makes me very happy to buy a current favorite song from iTunes. It simply makes me happy to listen to it over & over & over if I so choose!  Currently I'm loving Bruno Mars' newest release, "Young Girls"!!  Now I'm singing it in my head....love it!

So, there you have it. Now it's your turn....what little purchases make you happy for $5 or less?

Happy Weekend!!

Converse

I got a call from a friend last week to ask for help with her shoe dilemma.  She was going to be making a short weekend trip to a State up north with fairly cold temps.  She wondered what shoe might work best for the freezing temps outside, but also not make her boil while spending most of her days on the bleachers of an indoor pool.  At first, tall boots made the list, but that would personally make me boil while at the indoor pool.  Then flats were discussed, but that seemed to chilly of a prospect for the frigid temps outdoors.  Athletic tennis shoes she said would make her feel to frumpy, to which I quickly agreed!! (See this post of you missed my distaste of the use of athletic tennis shoes).

Finally, I mentioned Converse.  They're flat, comfortable, & provide enough foot coverage to fend off the cold temperatures outside, but not make you overheat indoors.  In the end, I'm not sure what she ended up with, but I thought I'd share some inspiration on ways you can easily incorporate Converse into a wardrobe.

Converse with Faux Leater

Leopard Converse

See...it's fun & easy to incorporate these casual shoes - which come in every color & print imaginable!  Of course you could also use shoes such as Vans, Sperry's, or even Toms (sorry, not a fan of Toms personally) in outfits such as these.

Other examples include how I recently wore my Converse, my favorite Converse outfit from Pinterest, & I love how Carylee over at More Pieces of Me wore them recently too! Oh, & I also used them earlier this week with the casual & comfy look with a LBD!

Cute & Casual

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Converse, or casual shoes in general.  I hope I've inspired you to wear them in a new way.  Even though it's a casual shoe, you'll still look & feel fabulous!

LBD

How was everybody's "Spring Forward Sunday"?  Pretty low key here, but it does amaze me how short the day feels when you lose just one hour.  However, I was glad to see the sun stay around longer, so that's a plus...Spring is on it's way!!

I was recently able to sneak away to a few stores recently with a friend.  While at Old Navy she picked up this little black dress (LBD).  We talked about all the ways she could wear this dress & for what occasions it would work.  The dress is a great linen-blend, which gives it a very slight texture & medium weight, but won't wrinkle as much as pure linen would.  She, not being a typical "dress wearer", felt it was important that this be a multi-functional item for her.  Of course I thought I would share with you some of the ways this dress could be worn.

LBD - Casual & Comfy
Old Navy strapless dress / Mossimo Supply Co cardigan / Yeswalker slip on shoes / Wristlet purse / Gemstone necklace / Forever 21 bracelet / Charlotte Russe post earrings / Forever 21 woven cord bracelet / Chuck Taylor Double Tongue

LBD - Dressy Casual
Old Navy strapless dress / American Eagle Outfitters blue jacket / Carlos by Carlos Santana wedge shoes / Journee Collection silver ballet flat / Sole Society studded purse / Black watch

LDB - Elegant

Old Navy strapless dress / Zigi soho shoes / Nina platform pumps / Lulu Townsend evening purse / Bib statement necklace / Scarve / Neo Floral Statement Necklace | Banana Republic

As you can see this particular LBD offers a lot of versatility.  You could wear it for a simple day with the kids, an evening out with the Husband, or even to a Cocktail Party.  On top of all that, the dress is comfortable & easy to wear!

A little side note: Old Navy is offering a 30% off coupon for online purchases only through Monday, March 10th!  Plus, don't forget to use any rewards you may have towards your purchase as well!  See their website for details.
